I happened to meet one of my school teachers after many years in a busy shopping mart, who is now retired. After shopping, over a cup of coffee we had a long chat about things happening with us. Experiences and thoughts she shared made me ponder that, ‘WOMAN is a Wonder of Mankind and Nature’.

Womens Day_Budkulo_1When I was in my school days, she appeared to me as a teacher with all ideal qualities I could think of. But then I did not know that she played more roles in life other than a teacher to me. She was a daughter, a sister, a wife, a daughter-in-law and a mother. She had well balanced her work life and family life. When I asked how this was possible for her, she gave a simple answer. She said, “I was simple, patient and understood my responsibilities and what my family needs from me.”

With her as an example of many such dedicated and family oriented women, I realized and accepted the fact that a family is not complete without a woman. She plays unique versatile role as a daughter, a sister, a wife, a daughter-in-law and a mother, which makes her to be a person the family can rely on evidently. Apart from relationships, she in times is a guide, a counselor, a friend, a caretaker, a manager, a nurse, a cook and many more according to the need and situation. She is also to cater for the physical, emotional and the spiritual needs of the family. Woman therefore is recognized as the backbone of the family because of the important roles she plays in the society.

A woman is the full circle. Within her is the power to create, nurture and transform. Women in the present are anyhow different from the past. Women in 21st era are different. They have vision and mission in all walks of their life. Women now are braver and confident. They are entitled with proper education and don’t doubt themselves.

Women have come a long way in this world, and rightfully so that progress is honored every year on March 8. To commemorate the power of women, International Women’s Day is celebrated on March 8 every year with a theme. The International Woman’s Day theme for 2016 is “Planet 50-50 by 2030: Step It Up for Gender Equality”. Its history lies in the early 1900s when oppression and inequality was spurring women to become more vocal and active in campaigning for change. International Women’s Day is a tribute to all the women who have fought across time and space against all forms of discrimination, exclusion, marginalization, violence and lack of equal opportunities for women. It celebrates womanhood and pays tribute to the indomitable spirit of women across the globe. In different regions the focus of the celebrations ranges from general celebration of respect, appreciation, and love towards women to a celebration for women’s economic, political, scientific and social achievements.

On International Day for women, huge sentiments are expressed about the power of women and many proverbs and poems directed towards women. It is really nice to have a special day for yourself where you are glorified to a point of being dazed, honored, awarded etc. But that must not be confined only for that day. Respecting and honoring women must be sacred and whole hearted.

Women in the past and present are not too different. Women of rural and urban sides, women of all walks of life, women of all type of status and background have been improving themselves in order to live a better life. As time passes, women learn from their mistakes the generalizations have many more exceptions in today’s world. Women in the future would be ruling the nation instead of helping men side by side. That’s the vision of women in future. To create better life than present. Now is never enough.

Happy Women’s Day!
