Priyanka Gandhi’s Boost; One Million Join Booth Level Cadre in 4 Weeks
Priyanka Gandhi’s entry to the political landscape seems to have given a boost to the Congress cadre across the country with more than one million fresh registration of booth workers recorded since her induction, the party’s data analytics department has assessed.
In Uttar Pradesh, where Priyanka is general secretary in charge and where the party’s cadre has been rather thin and flagging, the number of party workers more than doubled to 350,000 from 150,000 after her appointment.
Tamil Nadu, which is also not seen as a Congress stronghold, has recorded 250,000 fresh booth level registrations in the last two weeks alone, the data shows.
Overall, the number of Congress booth level workers across the country has increased to 6.4 million from 5.4 million in the last four weeks, party officials said.
The sister of Congress president Rahul Gandhi was appointed as general secretary in charge of Uttar Pradesh East on January 23, and she took charge on February 6.
“Priyanka Gandhi’s appointment has made a clear and big impact especially on the Congress workers,” says Praveen Chakravarty, head of Congress’ data analytics department. “There is tremendous enthusiasm across various states. UP apart, both Tamil Nadu and Kerala stand out in terms of a clear and dramatic rise in booth level interest and number of registrations.”
The department’s internal digital platform, Shakti app has helped map the cadre mobilisation.
While she is yet to make any public address, Priyanka is learnt to be actively engaged with booth workers in UP, sending out direct messages and responding to feedback and queries coming to her via a dedicated call centre set up for the purpose in Lucknow.
Modalities of her engagement with booth workers from across the country are also being worked out.
